He was very good friends with Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner and basically one of the most significant musical personalities of his time (he died in 1900). What I can't understand is why the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria manages to celebrate another resident, Richard Strauss, who was given a very good amount of help and inspiration by Levi, to excess, seeing that Strauss probably only moved there because of the proximity to Levi... anyway, Garmisch has managed to allow the gravesite of Levi to remain dilapidated and shamefully neglected. It is simply embarrassing. I have tried for years to gently encourage the town mayor to take this matter seriously as, especially due to Bavarian history and Levi's religious background, which of course has nothing to do with this, it just looks really bad, and, if word got out in certain quarters about this, the political faux pas might be good have been avoided rather than fired by inaction. I'll put this now here and on YouTube and point a few people in the right direction. Maybe that will shift them. Mail me if you would like some information about this.

Hans explains the context of playing a rather difficult bit of a Wagner Opera (Siegfried) that involves the horn player standing at the side of the stage whilst the tenor singer mimes with a horn on stage. All good stuff for horn players. Most baffling probably for anyone else.

I volunteered although I had never actually done this before. I learn a lot not only about horn playing but also about recording levels, microphone noise, green screen replacement and general video editing. Ifor died sadly shortly after making these with me but thankfully I can slowly but surely get around now to sharing these invaluable lessons with those interested in them.
